I haven't talked about 3.1 Phillip Lim in awhile.

One of my favorite brands/stores and for good reason.**Talk about awesome branding**
One of the few stores that I have to look away from when walking to A.P.C. in Soho. (I can handle A.P.C. prices). 3.1 is flat out expensive but justifiable. Jokingly I advise staying away from 3.1 unless your trying to drop 'rent like money'. 3.1 can be scary for the wallet when caught off guard in the store.

PS..3.1 dropped some seriously great products recently. I mean GREAT!!
I held out of buying the A.P.C. x Nike all-court shoes for this 3.1 product I'm getting this week. (hint.. accessories).
Though I must say that A.P.C. collab with Nike was pretty official and a must have for any serious A.P.C. fan. It was hard for me not to buy 2 pair but the price of $140 was a bit ridiculous.. Like seriously Nike all-courts for $140 in a recession.
Those A.P.C. all courts are clean though!!

KETCHUPS.. .by BARNEY'S

Usually I'm not really into the big Barney's warehouse sales. I go but I play the wall. Those sales can get a bit caddy and don't forget to add in the sale crazed women. Usually can't find my size anyway. The amounts of people passing through on any given day is ridiculous. My nod to Barney's for the most monumental sales of the past years (well second best sale in 2008, NOM DE GUERRE had the best). It can be a event in itself.

This year when Barney's sale came around, I did the same thing as usual but it went a bit different.
I WAS MONEY!!!

Here are my favorites:



I picked up this really simple yet slick, 3.1 Phillip Lim M-65 jacket.


This jacket was so on-time. The detailing is 3.1 at it's finest, so it is technical without looking so technical.
I'm a fall guy too so many of my favorite garment to buy are jackets. One of my issues with jackets is pocket placement. I carry a lot of things and some times jacket pockets just don't make sense. I love the pockets on the 3.1 M-65, as every pocket is actually 3 pockets. Four slouchy flapped pockets with button closures and center pleats. You can really tell this jacket was thought-out. Even the slightest of details like sleeves, come with three-button cuffs.
Trench-style flaps on front and a nice standing collar. I usually do not like shoulder epaulettes but this buttoned one works out great. This M-65 jacket is very breathable because of no real lining. More of a spring jacket though it could be worn it right before the cold season starts. The sleeves can be rolled up and secured with double-ring buckled bands. As with the waist with the sringe drawstring belt at hem.

This story below almost ended like a Greek tragedy...
The first day of the Barney's warehouse sale I was picking through the racks and saw this shirt from behind. Instantly I knew this shirt would have to be mine. I Flipped over the shirt and saw it was Number (N)ine.. AWESOME!!!
Only problem, the shirt was a size 3 and I'm a 5, maybe (number (n)ine is so small). I asked everybody looking through the racks, 5 different people had told me they saw a few hanging. I search to find no size 5(all were 3s).
Another day or so later, my friend told me the shirt was at Barney's warehouse while I was in Vegas.
The story of my life..
Let me tell you this shirt is so soft; 90% cotton 10% cashmere blend. The buttons almost are obsolete because of softness. I have to re-button the shirt it every 30 minutes. The pattern was my favorite detail about the garment. It gives me this "mesa like arizona" feel when I look at it. I love it!! At first, I was kinda weary about the exaggerated ruffles on the chest. I like them it was just figuring out I would be able to put this shirt into play come fall.
Back to story.. So the second to last day I (on a whim) decided to go back and what do you know. The number (n)ine shirt was like the first item I found.
I left out a lot of details, trust me. Those people at Barney's were absolutely tired of me asking about inventory stuff, managers, calling and basically whatever could do to find this shirt.
After this was all said and done, I had went to the Barney's sale 5 times just for this one shirt.

The 3.1 phillip lim M-65 was $580
The Number (N)ine shirt was $550
Of course, both were on sale but I can't find the receipt.
Oh well, the sale is over..

Last month, I leeked a pair of 3.1 Phillip Lim glasses that had yet to hit stateside...

Here they are...
3.1 Phillip Lim Marceau.


3.1 Phillip Lim has created 6 different style frames but I instantly liked the navy Marceau frames. The Marceau frames are actually sunglasses(the black version, below) and come in 5 different colors including kelly, black, navy, off white oatmeal, and red. The Marceau frames are rather 'Phillip Lim' with astouding but subtle branding, just one 3.1 logo on the left outside and signature on the inside right. All the frames styles including this one was handmade in Japan. If you are already a fan of Phillip Lim then you know and are in love with his standard of quality.


As for cost I'm not sure. I got a deal that supposed to be undisclosed.

Is this just the cutest shirt??
I paid $285(including taxes) for this lovely shirt.
3.1 Phillip Lim's newest season has arrived and to much expectation it is as great as I thought. Hands down some of the cleanest logo and branding work to date(kinda took branding to a new level). Phillip Lim has to be, hands down, the best overall designer for 2007-2008 seasons. Look at his current track record, his collection are pushing other lame duck designers to the side while permantely claiming his spot in the forefront. Phillip Lim collaborations with powerhouses ZOZOTOWN and Japanese American Rag cie were instant classic and maybe the "had to have" items of the year(I saw his American Rag cie collaboration bag selling for $650 used, thats $150 over retail, and the bag was quite dirty but I saw at least 5 women considering the purchase. That's how serious Phillip Lim's mark is.
I do not care who you try to compare 3.1 to; Balanciaga, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, even my beloved Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garcon lines. Phillip Lim is just that good.

Also.....
Guys if your not a fan of 3.1 Phillip Lim, it is okay.
Until this season his men's line was rather small and kinda spratic.
Now 3.1 men's section is marvelous, with about 75 sku's and rides those nautical vibes heavy.
Of course the quality is exceptional but not too formal. Phillip Lim clothing is a good bridge to extremely high fashion or for me a great compromise for high end fashion without all the attitude and flair.

Oh yea...

I just picked up these the other day.
This boxes contain some of the coolest glasses I have owned to date. There are not available at 3.1 Phillip Lim and rather scarce. Handmade in Japan and the quality shows.
I had to return the frames to my optometrist for lenses but I will keep you posted.

I'm not sure if it is good or bad 3.1 phillip lim sends me catalogs to their showrooms. I need to find someone on his payroll, he's getting too much money from me during the gift swapping holidays.

Every time I see a girl with a really cute outfit on, 9 times out of 10 Phillip Lim had something to do with it. That is exactly how I found out about Phillip Lim. That's the best way to find out about anything, show and prove. The brand that has done ever thing right, 3.1 phillip lim decided to collaborate with German shoe god, Alex Birkenstock, for 3.1's 2008 spring collection. Birkenstock established Tatami(i always thought Tatami was Japanese), as a brand for orthopaedic specialty stores. The first styles were actually crafted on a patented footbed. Sounds like something a senior citizen would wear.
In 2008, 3.1 for Tatami has infused the sandal classic design with the perfect amount of 'unfashionability' and distinct 3.1 phillip lim characteristics to create a look that is understatedly unique and effortlessly cool. Phillip's approach to Tatami(2010 will be Tatami's 20 year anniversary) makes these sandals some of the most sought after shoes.

I have always cheerfully regarded 3.1 for the complete collection. They create collections like puzzles with all the right pieces. Each garment makes complete sense which can be a rarity in today's market. If you haven't seen any of his collections please do so as soon as possible. I can honestly say hands down that he is my favorite designer not saying I wear his collections but my appreciation is tremendous. One of my weak areas in Fashion admittedly was women fashion. Not the t-shirt stuff but real clothing. So many components are needed to make a great women piece. Phillip has a uncanny eye for that and is the reason I can say I have somewhat an understand of what a wonderfully drapped garment looks like(I could go on for days)..
