LOCALS X WOODY

Today.....

Well first the weekend was great!
Got some really good shopping in(***great sales @ i heart, Nom De Guerre, and Stuart & Wright***) and had a blast on my birthday.....
I had planned to end this birthday extravaganza with a tag-a-long family trip to Hong Kong but unfortunately the trip was postpon a bit due to illness(sister). I'm really tired so I wasn't mad but my stomach had this weird feeling like "IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME" haha nah but it was strange like I was forgetting something important.
Long story, short, I got reservations for The Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band tonight at The Carlyle.

Who you ask??

Yep.. That's Woody Allen playing the clarinet....
I'm so excited.

The only thing...
When I made the reservation the receptionist made a point to say, "Jackets are required" ...
I was like "what?!?"
I had to take a second to break this dress code down.
Does that mean the "S-word"
S-U-I-T..
I just can't do them. I can, its just that a suit is something you just can't do in a day. I have a really nice glenn plaid blazers jacket but a "S-word".... I don't know.
Getting a suits like going to the DMV or something.

Plus its one thing to wear a blazer jacket to a house party or something but The Carlyle umm I'm not trying to look "HOBO-chic" if you know what I mean..

Luckily today I met 2 of the most interesting fashion locals.
Both have a long history in fashion and one still works with the likes of Berdoff, Saks 5th Ave, and Macys.
Old New Yorkers from the upper westside, shopping in my local digs.
Talk about SWAGGER
Eli, a rather stubby jewish gentleman with a slight hunch sporting a tan fur jacket, promised to take me to a quality consignment store tomorrow afternoon. "One of the jewels of old NYC" he says.
Hopefully I can get a picture of Eli. I felt out of the moment to ask for a shot.

Anyway, Eli worked textiles for sometime before becoming a clinical nurse. Strange transition but as he said, "If you have it(style), you have it" Eli Has it......I don't take fashion advice from many but he was too money. He was like the kid with the box of jordans in hand looking to match 8 outfits. He showed me some combinations that were sick. I mean I have my own style and look of how I like to match but sometime you meet someone who may have worked in a different field like textiles or drapping who look at things from a different angle. Eli would speak of fabrics and how certain materials look together. To me that was a light bulb flash. I don't know how many times i have put an outfit together thinking it would be a simple match but on, something just doesn't look right.
We talked for 2 hours while checking out my locals digs.
I hope I see him tomorrow.
Old guys are so cool.
They have the best stories and a brass truth to them like they have seen it all.

I'll show some pics later when I get back....

RECESSION REFLECTIONS

Last Night I was reading one of my favorite books, Without Feathers from Woody Allen. Tons of funny short stories written identical to his movies. A good read before you sleep.
I read the stories as if his voice is the narration like Deconstructing Harry or Annie Hall. Last night, before I counted my sheep, I read a few chapters from Without Feathers and came across a short story I wanted to share.

And it came to pass that a man who sold shirts was smitten by hard times. Neither did any of his merchandise move nor did he prosper. And he prayed and said, “Lord, why hast thou left me to suffer thus? All mine enemies sell their goods except I. And it’s the height of the season. My shirts are good shirts. Take a look at this rayon. I got button-downs, flared collars, nothing sells. Yet I have kept the commandments. Why can I not earn a living while my younger brother cleans up in the children’s ready-to-wear?”

And the Lord heard the man and said, “About thy shirts.. . “
“Yes, Lord,” the man said, falling to his knees.
“Put an alligator over the pocket.”
“Pardon me, Lord”

“Just do what I’m telling you. You won’t be sorry.”

And the man sewed on to all his shirts a small alligator symbol and lo and behold, suddenly his merchandise moved like gangbusters, and there was much rejoicing while amongst his enemies there was wailing and gnashing of teeth.

EUROPEAN MOVIE PICK

I just saw Vicky Christina Barcelona...
Let me say, anyone who said that Woody Allen skills are diminishing with old age needs to see this film asap. Really good story with all the "odds and ends" the way Woody Allen can only do. Now we can all disregard "Scoop" as a solo stinker though I have grown to like it. KINDA

I try to be respestful to all readers.
Stay away from certain topics that may isolate one from joining in
but I think everyone or anyone could agree.
Penelope Cruz is possibly the hottest women to appear on a projector screen in my life. I decided this today after her first scene. Almost breath taking (I have never repeated those words in my life..)
I literally started coughing in the theatre.
WOW!!! She was so beautiful in the movie.

Make a blind man cripple..
