I went to the Stephen Sprouse exhibit the other day at the Dietch.
Dietch Gallery
18 Wooster Street
New York, NY 10013
The exhibit is currently running until February 28th.

This exhibit follows up on a dream of Stephen Sprouse to exhibit his arts before his untimely death in 2004. Properly named "Rock on Mars" the show explores the illustrious career of a vibrant NY fashion icon.
I was completely unaware of his realm accomplishments. I knew he was under Bill Blass umbrella but was unaware his range of design. His abstract projects with Keith Haring. Really neat!!

I was unaware of his store formerly on Wooster Street financially backed by furniture manufacturer Knoll International.
Respectively his fashion was his forte. In 1992, Sprouse designed a Bergdorf-Goodman exclusive 32 piece couture line named "CyberPunk" which was his second line design for a big chain. His collections; "Stephen Sprouse," "Sprouse" and "S" were also regularly sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel in New York City. Sprouse's worked with some of the best. Barneys backed his production on a few season. Many of the great outlets loved Sprouse. Add in his extensive knowledge and taste in rich textiles, it was not unusual to see a new Stephen Sprouse garment adorned in a front widow on 5th Avenue or featured in that weeks Vogue.
Many people know and remember his running with Andy Warhol during the factory days in the early '80's (Sprouse later did a tribute pattern with Andy Warhol's famous camouflage in fall spring 87-88 collections).
Did you know he also was the fashion guy behind power band, Duran Duran..

The Dietch's exhibit second floor showcases some of Sprouse's recent fame with Louis Vuitton via Marc Jacobs.

In 2001, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs enlisted Sprouse to revive the trademark tote. Within in seconds of the collaborative release, Stephen Sprouse was once again a household name in modern fashion. Again in Fall 2006, Marc Jacobs utilized Sprouse's 1987 graffiti leopard font for handbags, shoes, and scarves for Louis Vuitton capsule again becoming the must have items of the year.

The Deitch Projects does a great job!!
if you have time make sure to stop by...
While your on Wooster Street and speaking of Marc Jacobs...
Walk up a block and check out a exhibit sponsored by Marc Jacobs running at the Drawing Center.
"Just Like an Ant Walking on the Edge of the Visible"

The Drawing Center
35 Wooster Street
New York, NY, 10013
The first United States museum exhibit devoted to Paris based designers, M/M (Paris). Mathias Augustyniak and Michaël Amzalag works have had many platforms since their art and design partnership formed in 1992. M/M (Paris) has worked with the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, Calvin Klein, Bjork, and Balenciaga to name a few.
M/M (Paris)'s "Just Like an Ant Walking on the Edge of the Visible" displays some of their mutli-functional style. M/M (Paris) design style intersect between traditional printmaking, free hand drawing, screen printing, collage work and by the looks of this exhibit some minor welding.
The exhibit canvas is 41 (about 2 1/2 feet) wood-&-metal stools manipulated in M/M (Paris)'s signature letterform alphabet to construct a space and generate artistic form.
Really nice show and i think this weekend is the last.
Sorry no pics as they were not allowed...
