FIELD STUDY X STOCKHOLM V.1

One the best days I had in Stockholm was actually chilling with a familiar face. A NYC compare. Henrik(Mishka) aka Skinny Digital is from Stockholm and quite the historian on fashion in Sweden. I wasn't surprised as I have always like his fashion vibe but it was cool to see him in his element sort of say. He has a firm grip on the industry and was a good guide in Stockholm. He knows all the "needs to know" too. Funny how even in Stockholm, I would have these small world moments. I ran into Henrik on accident walking from Cali Roots. Crazier event was when I got to Stockholm I went to SneaksNStuff and ran into his girlfriend Ellen. They had predicted that I would come through and sure enough I was there in the first thing.

One thing I must say before I get into the stores. The one thing that I was sad about was that stores close so early there. usually business hours are from 12-6 on weekdays and 12-4 on weekends maybe 5 in some places. Also all stores close for 5 weeks a year for vacation. I attributed this to Stockholm having very strong family base which to me made sense as everybody there had babies. I heard of Stockholm Syndrome but Stockholm BABY Syndrome has taken over Sweden like a plague or something.

Boutique Sportif
Kocksgatan 60
Stockholm Sweden

Boutique Sportif was the first shop we went to and from what I heard was the first store to carry sort of streetwear in Stockholm. Many people look to Boutique Sportif as the trailblazers in that realm also because of there close to connection to NYC based brand SSUR. Thomas(bad with names) and brother Johan(famous for the dots painting featured on website and in store) have compiled a brand list that would fit in any burrough of NYC. Brands like STUSSY, CAZAL, FUCT, J MONEY, FRESHJIVE, ADIDAS, OFFICIAL, & FEIT to name a few.

Boutique Sportif is a nice store. Superfuture was quoted saying, "clean, white and architectural: if Richard Meier were a skater." Definitely a easy buy for any NYC'er looking for a nice t far from home.

Boutique Sportif also produces their own in-house brand, Your Sweden Luxury. THANKS FOR THE GOODS AGAIN!!!

Side Note: Does that banana on the lips of the skeleton look familiar? Johan from Boutique Sportif created it for the SSUR x MHI x Medicom x Andy Warhol pillow collaboration. He also doing a exhibit for Absolute Vodka coming soon. Word is they gave him 10 days at a really nice hotel in Stockholm to recreate his dots throughout the room for a coming ad.
We journeyed to 2 other dope stores but I will get back to them asap..

Later that night..(excuse slight party pics)
The night life in Stockholm is rather odd. I usually do not post party stuff but I felt it was needed for my Stockholm trip.
Okay from what I heard and felt the nightlife is rather controlled. Basically if you don't know anybody you really can't go out. It's like Marquee steez but at bars. Stockholm bars and clubs are very picky who they let in. I was completely shocked but given I was visiting from lame duck capital of the world and I would think nobody would follow suit. If your in the in crowd it could be fun though. The architecture in Stockholm is beautiful where ever you go.

This is one of bars I went to the most in Stockholm. Really nice scenery & music and was usually packed.
Indigo Bar Götgatan 19
The area is like the Williamsburg(BK) of Stockholm. I noticed a few things there..
Okay first Vision Streetwear is still kinda big in Stockholm. Also DJ's in Stockholm, will good ones are usually sponsored by brands. The DJ at Indigo was telling me how Stussy has been sending him gear for awhile. These jeans were dope and if not mistaken are coming out next year(?). I think that's right..

Another reason the nightlife in Stockholm is small is due the short hours of operations. Most bars close at 12( restaurants @ 10PM) gives a very small window so in some places every customer counts. I didn't have any problems but my friends would tell me stories of different places. There is only 2 places that regularly stay open up after hours. One night, I went to one of them, Berns Salonger. An after hours night club that reminded me a lot of New York City. Lots of trendsters as the 80's wear trend has reach Sweden to to my dismay. The regular DJ was dripped in a King Stampede fitted.

That same night of Indigo I went to a rather swanky Hotel party.
This is Phillipe(with beard has a salon called "Sure Baby, Yes" awesome name) and Fredrik(Panagora Room) Olle from Haberdashery linked me up with Fredrik for lunch. Fredrik is the trigger man behind one of the biggest web shop developing companies in the Europe, Panagora Room. Panagora Room has developed such web shops as Cali Roots, Acne, Sneakers and Stuff, J. Lindberg, Nudie and TOPSTREETWEAR to name a few. They are kinda the reason behind why Stockholm was reported to have sold over 900,000 pair of Nikes last year alone. Stockholm is really rather small so that's a pretty big feat in my book.

Fredrik also took me to one of my new favorite store....BlackMarket!! Hungry but be back soon.
