Locals Recap

This is my ideal summer day...
Lampin' with a drink in an area full of 'green'.
You understand me....

No matter where I live I try to make it fit my lifestyle. Since living in Sty-Town, I have made the east side of Manhattan my own. I have a few local digs that I frequent; restaurants, stores, galleries, and bars. Lately I haven't went to any super cool thrift stores but my local digs always seem to fit the bill. Whether I'm looking for a some sort of jacket or garment or just a book they seem to always come up clutch. I wouldn't recommend them because on a given day you probably would walk in a find something but for me I figure out their schedule so I do OK.

Housing Works Thrift Store
157 E 23rd St (between 3rd Avenue & Lexington)
New York City, NY -Gramercy

Housing Works Thrift Stores kinda epitomizes the idea of New York thrifting scene, HIGH PRICES!!. I mean I'm not cheap by any means but sometime I feel like NY thrift stores forget the reasons why thrifting has became so popular over the recession times. Sorry to complain because I have no problems shopping at retailers but I really hate when thrift stores try to tax customers on stuff they know costs extremely less.
On the flip side, Housing Works Thrift probably has the best quality of things. They put clothes in cleaners before selling and they just do not take anything. Most times I have shopped their, I have bought things that were actually brand spanking new.
My last visit I bought this Andy Camp button up POLO shirt. It was brand new and for sale for $20. I almost cringed at the thought of paying $20 but Andy Camp POLO shirts usually go for $80 and up plus it was brand new.
I would give the Gramercy Housing Works Thrift Store a 2/5...

Goodwill Superstore
220 East 23rd Street
New york City, NY 10010

This is like my spot. The prices are right and I always find a gem here. Nothing spectacular about this store actually it is rather dirty at times but the selection is good. If your in to digging, you will definitely leave with something good. As i was saying earlier about thrift store with new clothing this one is definitely a bookmarker.
The last 4 or 5 times I have been to Goodwill Superstore, I have found production samples for brands like American Rag cie & Supreme. My favorite section here is their media section. They're DVDs and books are usually gold especially the prices.
My last visit I picked up 3 books for a total cost of $3. Really good deal I thought especially because the Textiles book was $10 by itself.
The gem of the day was Among the Thugs by Bill Buford. I have heard so much about this book plus Bill Buford(editor of prestigious journal, Granta) style is like George Orwell mixed with Hunter S. Thompson. Definitely a book worth checking out.
I would give Goodwill Superstore a 3/5..
