Hot Day x Mid Week DVD pick

“We always long for the forbidden things, and desire what is denied us.”- Francois Rabelais (French author,1483-1553)

I really have been wanting to skate badly. As of the past week, not too much of anything has been possible. I just checked the weather and it stated is was 85° in 11211. That is impossible, it feels more like 105°. Way too hot to skate during the prime time. I like to skate but I also have a demanding life. I tried to do the "after 12AM or before 9AM" thing. It was refreshing at first; waking up before dawn, lacing up the kicks, and watching all the suits watch me (Lemming marching to their board meeting and such. I don't disrespect the business lifestyle at all, I actually appreciate them very much, somebody has to do it.) but I'm not pro. I feel weird even typing that. My respect and appreciation keeps me skating regularly but your not gonna see me Tre-Flip any 10 stairs soon.
Today, the skate gods have given me a beverage to hold me over the summer heat wave; my job received the new Krooked video, The Naughty. 'Gonz', Cancer Dan & the rest of the Krooked crew are definitely at it again. Before you even get to the skating you have to admire the 'zine' style cover and inside of the dvd. I totally dig what these guys are packaging up. Straight up style. Your not going to see the craziest trick in the world but the styles displayed are instantly admired by the taste makers. Krooked has this artistic stamp they put into each film that you just have to respect. Not like Spike jonze, more of that enigmatic(not sure if this is a word but you get my drift) Mark Gonzales feel.
I used to aspire to direct and edit skate videos. I would watch them and write notes on what I would do if i was behind the lens; music, editing tricks, basically gimmicky computer tricks. Probably best I admire from a distance.
The Naughty is a all around good time. The music is really spacey and the whole flick follows suit with the edgy zine style look. Besides the skaters(look for guests Jason Dill, Lee Ralph, & Rick McCrank) my favorite element of the video is the film style. They use about every digital item possible to make this film happen. Nuff said, peep it.

Please don't ask me to borrow it anytime soon, "No my brother, you gotta get your own".
