TV sucks...
Well maybe not
Maybe my schedule doesn't allow me to invest in quality viewing but even if feasible, I think I would still watch the usually murder mysteries/documentaries. The almighty Sundance channel has released another great documentary on high fashion. House of Boateng, an 8 episode series/documentary examines acclaimed british suit designer and Savile Row bespoke tailor, Ozwald Boateng. Ozwald Boateng may not ring a bell in the U.S.A. now but expect a big title wave soon. A tailor by nature, Boateng started tailoring at the tender age of 16, then going into his own business at 23. Since 2000, Boateng has became a major player in tailoring with his vibrant approach to fit, style, texture, and color. In 2003, Givenchy hired Boateng to creatively direct their coming seasons menwear line. Givenchy decision came a year after Boateng walked away with the top honor at 2002 British Fashion Award for "Top Men's Designer". Many critics have regarded Boateng's style the main influence in new generation british tailoring. Will Smith, Ryan Seacrest, and Jude Law are a few of the many male american celebs who regularly walk the red carpet wearing an Ozwald Boateng design.
Sundance follows Ozwald Boateng as he infiltrate the american retail market. Many noted designers follow and voice there opinion of 'bespoke couturier' future success throughout the documentary.
I was glued in after 10 minutes of the first episode.
I personally think House of Boateng is a very informative show for any aspiring designer or store owners. This documentary breaks down what it really takes to become a major designer in the american market.
